What is BID ?

Born out of town centre management partnerships, the concept was originally established in Canada in the 1960’s. In 2017 there are now 38 Operational BID’s in Scotland and we would like your vote to bring a business improvement district to Prestwick.

Business Improvement Districts recognise that town centres are a source of business, employment, residential and leisure and are at the heart of communities. To thrive towns and businesses need to engage with the local authority,  local community and attract visitors from outwith the area to create a town centre that shows they are making their town stand out and be the place that people come to do business.

A BID is a business led initiative where all businesses within a defined area of a town both contribute and work together to make decisions at local level on strengthening and building the local business economy.

Becoming a Business Improvement District provides towns with a fair system where every business pays an annual levy and how it is spent is decided by local businesses for the benefit of the town. BID’s are developed by businesses for business.

Currently the Prestwick Business Association lacks funding, any funding tends to come from the independent businesses and there is no real funding to deliver the great ideas that many local business owners have for improving Prestwick.
